Shinobu shook her head, and rose back up to a standing position. Ringo flicked his tail and started walking up the sloped path to one of the dens. It stood alone on the terraced hillside, barely standing out from the shadows of the waning light.
He padded up the entrance of the short building, allowing his charge to enter before himself. She slid her head around the square hole and stood shock-still in awe. Ringo smiled, happy to share the strange beauty of his home with another. The luminescence of the moss cast a soft light about the den. Shinobu eventually made her way inside, still waving her head about to capture her surroundings in that navy-blue eye. She turned and came her a bewildered smile. "Ringo...this place..." she closed her eye and her smile widened. "It's beautiful..."
Ringo said nothing in response, just smiled and made his way into the den. It was a little crowded with two wolves, as it was much smaller than the dens in the main city of Khuno. The gray she-wolf took no time slumping down into the soft moss. She must be utterly exhausted… Ringo said his prayers and slid down next to her. A huge yawn escaped his maw. Who am I kidding? I’m tired too. he placed his head on his paws. It felt odd, as he usually slept with his head propped on Koji’s back. But sleep overcame him, awkward position or not.
Ringo awoke to a raucous calling of a flock of songbirds that choose to quarrel early. He growled, casting an evil glare at the open roof of the den. The male rather hated it when something woke him up, as he could never get back to sleep again. “¿Por qué aves tienen que despertarse tan temprano?”
He stretched, and let another yawn escape his maw. Ringo rose to his paws and shook the moss from his fur. His piercing chimed against each other, and scattered light around the walls of the stone building. He stepped out onto the hillside, blinking and squinting in the sun. The songbirds that had rested in the grass outside the den scattered in a flurry of feathers and more strident cries. Ringo snorted and padded around behind the den to relieve himself. As he padded back around to the front of the den, his stomach growled fiercely. He parted his mouth and let his tongue loll out, wallowing in his hunger. Ringo though about leaving to hunt, but he was a rather poor hunter of ground game…and he still had to get Shinobu to Khuno.
He sat ungracefully on his bum and decided to sunbathe while waiting for the pretty she-wolf to awake.
